Tinder, the most popular dating app on the market right now attracts users from all different cultures. People who often try out Tinder for the first time may not know what to expect.
Because of this, it’s common for people who try out dating apps for the first time, to want to swipe through the mobile app without having their face or information shown.
Users may also want to hide the fact they are using Tinder. This could be for various amount of reasons but could be for the embarrassment of trying out a dating app.
Most users feel some sort of regret in the early days of their dating app journey, but then soon realize that it’s common and it’s how people are normally dating nowadays.
We’re going to walk you through Tinder’s features and show you how you can use Tinder anonymously.
Understanding Tinder
Tinder is a mobile dating app that uses a “card stack” style for users to swipe right on matches they want to talk to and left on users they don’t wish to meet.
When both users swipe right on each other, they will then be matched up and allowed to talk with one another. This essentially is the lock and key to Tinder and other popular dating apps. Two right swipes essentially give clearance to the users to talk to each other.
Once a match has been made, users are able to text back and forth as if it’s a normal text conversation.
Tinder does not allow for picture messages or any type of audio to be sent, only text messages. Tinder recently introduced gifs that are loaded on the platform but that is the only type of picture messaging that can be used.
If the user wants to proceed with meeting their match, they will simply agree to meet or go off-platform with Snapchat or texting. This is usually the case, as users are able to see if the person on the other end is real.
One of the biggest downfalls of online dating is making sure the person on the other end is real and not a catfish. The best way to determine if a person is real is to use platforms like Snapchat or any video/picture platform.

Can Tinder Be Anonymous
Tinder does have an anonymous feature, however, there are some limitations to how it’s used. For example
A user is able to use Tinder (swipe right and left) for a period of time to accumulate matches. Once they have accumulated matches, they are then able to tick the box that says “show up in discovery”.
Turning off discovery will simply allow for the user to talk to their matches, however, they will not appear in the card stack. This is one way to stay anonymous, once you have met your matches.
The user, however, may not search the card stack anonymously. There’s no way to sign on to tinder and search profiles from an anonymous level. The only possible way we could think of searching anonymously is by creating a fake profile and swiping through.
We highly recommend you don’t do this, as it will weigh down the platform with fake profiles and ruin the experience for users who are actually trying to find a date. Tinder limits how many swipes users get per day, your fake profile could be costing other people valuable time.
Turning Off Discovery On Tinder
There are a few reasons why you may want to turn off discovery.
The first reason is to not show yourself in the card stack, especially if you’ve met someone you really like.
Oftentimes, we found someone we’re really attracted to, having other options to look at may take your mind away from the person you’re attracted to.
The second reason is to hide from people in your local community. If you’re home for the weekend and you don’t want anyone in your area to know you’re on Tinder, you may hide until you get back home.
This is the easiest way to remain anonymous on Tinder that way people can’t see that you’re on a dating app.
One major piece that we must note – if you turn off discovery, you will not be able to swipe on other profiles. If it hides your card stack, it’s not allowing you to swipe on other people’s card stacks. The only way to get back to swiping is to enable discovery so everyone can see your profile again.
This is an important piece because you’re not able to take yourself out of the card stack and look at other profiles.
If you’re looking to hide from discovery and stay anonymous after you’ve swiped and matched, here’s how to do so:
- Go to the settings icon in the top left corner
- Uncheck the button that says “Show me on Tinder”
- Click “Done” in the top right
This is all you’ll need to do, to remove yourself from the card stack and stay anonymous while you use the Tinder app.
